Savour
Tonight you kept waking up with an unsettled cry. Your foster dad and I agree that we love having you in our home, but we are unsettled too when you can’t tell us what hurts. Unknowing what to do, we give you some medicine. Feel better little one.
As I wait for your medicine to kick in, we rock and rock.
I can’t stop looking at your tint eyelids and enjoying the space to think in the quiet. I could put you in your crib, but I don’t want to yet. Let’s rock some more, okay?
Soon we both settle in body and heart.
You might not be here forever, but let this sweet moment never end.
I’m savoring it.
